Quick bursts of learning.

Are you familiar with micro learning? There are many definitions out there. I find it helpful to think of it as small bite-sized units of learning with just one learning objective. It’s quick learning that’s super impactful and easy to digest. Some also call this just-in-time learning — 2–4 minute videos that are learner-centered and can be viewed on a phone, during a job, or really anywhere at anytime.

At Desklight, there are a few styles we consider when using micro learning as part of an overall learning strategy:

1. Performance-based Learning
For when we are looking to help people perform better at a task or skill.

2. Persuasion-based Learning
For when we are interested in modifying a very specific behavior.

3. Post-instruction-based Learning
For when we are following up on a longer training and really want to ensure our learners get a particular concept.

4. Prep-based Learning
For when we want to prepare learners for a larger training session and give them some details on what to expect.

Just for fun, I recently made a micro course using 7Taps with AI integrations. The topic? How to Run a Team Reflection by teaching a framework from my recent book, Learning in the Wild. Check it out!

And, if you’re curious to learn more about how I built this, I started with this training plan and also had fun using Canva to make an infographic, which is below, that can share the opportunity with teams.

There are so many great tech tools now for developing learning experiences, it’s fun to share just a few here and I plan to continue sharing what I’m finding and learning. As AI integrations continue to emerge and experimented with, I find it’s fun and important to share these tools with each other to find not just incremental innovation opportunities for how people can learn more effectively but also where we can find and share major, life changing learning innovation opportunities for everyone.

Enjoy!
